This month we will highlight the strategies we can teach students to facilitate deep learning. In our book Flexible Mindsets in Schools, we stress that the essence of learning lies in knowing what we don’t know and then digging in by thinking through, juggling, sorting, figuring out and grappling. The act of identifying what you don’t know is the impetus for self-directed learning and then you use the strategy of grappling to dig in and learn what you don’t know.
